What We Do

  • Outcomes-Based Evaluation

We design and implement outcomes-based evaluations focused on understanding what audiences learn from their experiences. Whether it’s a program, an exhibit, or another type of engagement, we work towards understanding whether outcomes are being met and what is — or is not — working.

  • Evaluation Capacity Building

We pride ourselves in being evaluator educators, teaching and coaching staff to develop their knowledge and skills to support and carry out evaluation. We work closely with teams to build their capacity and cultivate a positive evaluation culture at their institutions.

  • Visitor Studies and Audience Research

We conduct a number of different types of audience research to better understand your current or target audience needs, interests, motivations, and other characteristics to help inform your programs and exhibits. Whether it’s a needs assessment or front end evaluation, we can equip you with data to inform your planning process.

  • Education Research

We collaborate with academic institutions and social scientists to uncover new insights in education theory and practice to help inform researchers and practitioners. We consult on many grant-funded studies to help advance our understanding of our field.

  • Technical Support

We recognize that sometimes organizations need additional capacity or expertise to carry out their work. We support organizations with technical tasks, such as logic model development, instrument development, data analysis, and proposal writing for funds.

  • Supporting Our Field

We are actively engaged in our professional community, serving on committees such as the Association of Zoo’s and Aquarium’s (AZA) Social Science Research and Evaluation Scientific Advisory Group, attending and presenting at conferences such as the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
