NASA’s Universe of Learning comprises multiple projects aimed at inspiring engagement and learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Content is provided from NASA’s Astrophysics missions and guided by educators and scientists alike.

We conducted an assessment of the projects to identify strengths and opportunities to deepen learning. Using science learning frameworks including the National Academy of Science’s Strands for Informal Science Learning, the Nature of Science, and Scientific Inquiry, we mapped out how each project supported these essential science learning practices. In addition, we created a taxonomy of Universe of Learning audiences, identifying opportunities to broaden engagement with particular audiences.
